Job Description

Job Purpose
To manage the development team to provide ongoing design, development, maintenance and support of Our Client’s software applications and client websites. To work alongside client services and directly with clients to develop digital applications and opportunities.

Job Responsibilities
To be responsible for ensuring the processes, technology and resources are available for the design, architecture, development, maintenance and administration of applications for software systems and websites

To troubleshoot, debug and enhance the current software applications to ensure smooth and efficient operation supporting key activities within Our Client

To manage and support the development team in designing and delivering web and software-based, digital solutions according to client requirements

To work in partnership with other project teams and Heads of Department to identify and deliver innovative solutions

To take a client facing role where appropriate to the project, taking briefs and making presentations.

To support and ensure resources are available for database administration and performance tuning

To source, introduce and implement appropriate new technologies as required by the development of Our Client’s business and organisational goals

To undertake training as required and keep up with industry innovations and developments to ensure that applications are operating as efficiently as possible

To create plans and timelines for new projects and allocate development resource as appropriate

To conduct feasibility studies for projects and new service offerings

To give technical advice, guidance and inspiration on new projects

To write technical and functional specification documents.

To write quotes, proposals, make recommendations and interpret client briefs and ensure that websites and other digital applications built by the team:
• are engaging
• have correct application of data
• have working functionality
• are user-friendly

To ensure robust processes are in place and utilized for testing web development and peer review

To ensure thorough and efficient processes are in place and followed for formal client sign-off and undertaking changes to the development brief

To deliver project on budget and timescales and ensure quality processes and outputs

To reconcile project costs against budget

To provide technical support to the team and to Our Client as a whole when necessary

To ensure a workable and acceptable rota is in place to undertake server administration and provide on-call assistance

To undertake any other activity as defined by the MD as being within the scope and range of the role.


Person Specification
A good foundation of programming skills/database development and an active interest in developing knowledge and experience further

A broad framework of development knowledge and experience, gained in a business environment, which can be applied and developed further to meet a diverse range of business needs.

Current experience as a Senior Developer or Technical Lead on projects.

At least 2 years’ .NET programming experience backed up by a minimum of 5 years’ solid programming experience. VB knowledge and experience essential, C# knowledge of benefit but not essential

3-5 years’ architectural and administrative experience with MS SQL2000/5, DTS, Stored Procedures

Experience of server administration (Windows 2000-2003)

Working knowledge of W3C standards and guidelines, HTML and CSS

Familiarity with industry standard database & programming packages .NET VB and/or C# in MS Visual Studio

Demonstrable problem solving skills and the ability to analyse, debug and correct code-based errors

Line management/supervisory experience of a Development Team

Experience of specifying and resourcing development projects and meeting client requirements in terms of deadlines and project requirements in relation to time, budget and quality.

Ability to multi-task and manage the delivery of short-term tasks alongside longer-term projects

Can-do attitude to problem-solving and high attention to detail and accuracy

Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak and write clearly and effectively to understand and deliver application developments and build links within Our Client and with clients

Industry credibility and knowledge; to be the expert “voice” in speaking to clients or providing external positioning for publicity/marketing communication

Willingness and ability to develop skills and experience
